Of the many sculptural works he has created, fifteen of them are located on the Nativity Façade, started by Gaudí himself and finished by the Japanese sculptor in 2000. He has received several awards, including: the Art of Spirit Award from Lladró (2002), the Cultural Award from Fukuoka Prefecture (2002), the Cultural Award from the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs (2008), and the Michelangelo di Carrara Prize (2012). In 2014, he received the European Gold Cross from the AEFE and the Gaudí Gresol Award for his brilliant personal and professional career.
Handmade in Japan using the ancient 'urushi' technique

Sotoo has reproduced for Joselito a spectacular chest, individually handmade in Japan, using the ancient 'urushi' technique:an ancient Japanese engraving and printing method on lacquered wood.A team of expert Japanese artisans worked for weeks on each piece using traditional lacquer techniques with centuries of history.

The samurai is a universal symbol of leadership and strength, values that we share at Joselito and that Etsuro Sotoo also wanted to convey through this noble figure.
