HAPPY PIGS

Happy pigs

Our pigs live in complete freedom in their natural habitat: the pasture, a precious ecosystem halfway between the Mediterranean forest and the meadow, where each pig enjoys three hectares all to itself.
The pigs feed mainly on acorns and grass.
This gives our ham a unique flavour and health properties.
ACORNS
Acorns contain a high level of monounsaturated fatty acids that influence blood cholesterol level. They help reduce “LDL” (bad) cholesterol and increase “HDL” (good) cholesterol. They are also a source of Vitamin E, an antioxidant that favours the elimination of free radicals responsible for ageing. This vitamin’s ability to protect cell membranes and prevent oxidation gives it preventive properties against many degenerative diseases that appear as we grow older — for example, it is used in the prevention of Parkinson’s disease.

Acorns also contain a flavonoid called quercetin, known for its high antioxidant activity.

GRASS
Joselito’s pigs graze freely in the pasture feeding on natural grass that grows in the fields. Grass is a great source of protein and also Vitamin E, which is absorbed and accumulated in Joselito pigs.
